Rock Climbing

Rock climbing in Nepal is a challenging sport for outdoor lovers, which has now gained popularity among foreigner coming to Nepal. If you are not able to climb up the highest peaks, rock climbing gives you the opportunity to get a high. Most of the areas for Rock climbing are situated towards the north of Kathmandu several place and near by Pokhara & in Everest region, Nagarjun Balaju, Hattiban, Nagarjun and Khumbu Rock climbing. Similarly, Kodari, the borderland of Nepal/Tibet, Shreeban offer some excellent climbs. In addition there are many such cliffs, which are remaining unexplored. Inside Kathmandu, there is Pasang Lhamu Rock Climbing Institute with an artificial huge wall open for all beginners and experts. Trip to these places can be combined with hiking, bird watching, nature tours and other activities. Rock Climbing is a physically and mentally demanding sport, that tests a climber's strength, endurance, agility, and balance along with his or her mental control with a guidance of expert guide.

Rock climbing in Nagarjun:  Nagarjun also known as the Jamacho is the forested hill which lies to the northwest of the Swoyambhunnath Stupa. The climbing cliff here is located inside the Royal Forestland is suitable for both beginners and regulars. The limestone face is about 12 meters high, and there are several piton-equipped routes. To get there, take a taxi to Balaju (3 km from downtown Kathmandu) and then walk to the park entrance. From the gate, follow the dirt road to a point just before the army check post where you will come across a track leading to the right. Follow this trail through trees and shrubs for about five minutes, and there's the cliff

Rock climbing in Hattiban:  Hattiban rock climbing site is located 15-km south west of Kathmandu valley on a way to holy temple of Daskinkali. The climbing site is for professionals where they can enjoy top level grades climbing. Drive time is 1 hrs from Thamel, Kathmanduand you will have to take a hike for about 30 minutes to reach the spot.

Rock climbing in Bimal Nagar:  Bimal Nagar climbing site is situated in the south west from Kathmandu and it takes almost 5 hours by bus on the way to Pokhara. It is 140-km from Kathmandu. If you are coming from Pokhara then it is 60-km from Pokhara there are many nice climbing routes. There are only few fixed route where you can go climbing it is 55m natural rock climbing and four pitches and some single pitch it is just 5 minutes from the road.

Khumbu Rock Climbing: This rock is near Mt. Everest and is at 3800 meters. It is a great training rock for those who are doing peak climbing or trekking in the area. There are 17 routes starting from grade 4c to 7c. This rock is multi pitch and about 200m high.

Shivapuri Rock climbing: Another interesting rock wall is situated on the slope of Shivapuri hill to the north of Kathmandu. The granite faces here lie scattered about, and the big cliff in the center is equipped with a single route .To get there, go by taxi or bus to Budhailkantha (9km),the shrine of the sleeping Bishnu, then walk west from the bus stop the Bishnumati stream through terraced fields and enters the Shivapuri Watershed and Wildlife reserve. The cliffs can be seen from a distance, so you won't have much difficulty finding the place.
