Overview

Gokyo Cho La Pass Trek offers excellent and rewarding views of Mount Everest in the adjacent range. From Gokyo village, you can see clearly Mount Everest from a slightly greater distance. The views in the Gokyo region are tremendous.

Gokyo valley trek begins at the mountain airstri at Lukla forty five minute flights from Kathmandu. Our trekking goal is the high altitude lakes of Ghokyo at over (4200m) less frequented than the Everest Base Cam a route trek rovides some tremendous high altitude trekking and a visit to the second largest glacier in the World. From the to of Gokyo-Ri there are some magnificent mountain views including Everest. We trek down to Lukla and fly back to Kathmandu.

Itinerary

Upon arrival at Tribhuwan international airport, welcomed by our representative and transfer to hotel. The remainder of the afternoon is at leisure. A pre-trek briefing will be given in the evening at hotel about the daily program activities by your Group Leader/Guide.

Today after breakfast we start a guided tour to several of the most historical and spiritual attractions in Kathmandu. Some of these landmarks are considered World Heritage Sites including the historic Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, the famous 'Monkey Temple' (Swoyambhunath) and Buddhist shrine (Bouddhanath) which is one of the largest stupas in the world. At noon, there will be a pre-trip discussion where we can meet our trek leader and other team members. Nepal Adventure Point briefs us regarding our trek as well as provides us an opportunity to ask any questions we may have regarding our upcoming adventure.

We transfer to the airport then you have a scenic 35 minutes flight to Lukla (2800m) from Kathmandu. This was the airstrip built by Sir Edmund Hillary and his friends. On arrival meet your trekking crews and process to start trek to Phakding. The trail from Lukla leads you to Chablung (2645m) and it descends steeply to the Thade Kosi which is also known as Kusum Kangru Khola. Beyond the Thade Kosi Bridge, the trail climbs to Ghat (2590m) and again climbs to Phadking. In Phadking you can climb to the Gompa to see your first view of the high peaks. 

From Phadking the trail follows the Dudh Koshi River and reaches Zamphuti. From here you can see excellent views of Mt. Thamserku peak then the trail climbs to Chomoa, the site of an agricultural project, an interesting place to have a look around and gain an insight into the farming way of life of these people. From Chomoa, the trail again climbs to Monjo (2840m) and enters the Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park (1148sq km, established in 1976). Walking some distance up hill you will be at Jorsale (2830m) and after a long climb with views of Mt. Everest over the ridge of Nuptse (7879m) the trail reaches the street of Namche Bazaar. 

This day you will take the day off to allow your bodies to adjust to the rarefied atmosphere before ascending to higher altitudes or you can spend it taking a day hike to Thame, the birthplace of Tenzing Norgay, the Sherpa who made the first ascent of Everest with Hillary in 1953 or visiting Khunde or relaxing and exploring Namche Bazaar itself. It's the main centre of the Khumbu region and has shops, restaurants; a bakery and a colorful market each Saturday. 

This we hike up towards a big hill and reach Everest View Point Hotel after crossing a tiny airstrip on Syangboche. Japanese scheme to build a deluxe hotel with great views of the highest mountains on Earth. We then lead you to Khumjung, probably one of the best village of Khumbu regions. Visit Hillary school established by Sir Edmund Hillary and visit to Khunde village where a place of famous climber and big hospital running by charity. After lunch the trail descends to the Dudh Koshi and finishes for the day at Phortse Thanga.

The trail climbs steeply from Phortse Thanga through the cool, dense rhododendron forest, passing many Kharkas on its way to Tongba (3950m) and Gyele (3960m) and finally Dole. A small place with few teahouses and enjoy your night at Dole.

After breakfast, we climb to the scenic ridge above the Dole and the trail climbs via Lhabarma at (4220m). The path is steep in most places as it climbs through scrub to Lhabarma. The trail continues to climb along the side of the valley high above the river, crossing sandy spurs to reach Machhermo at (4410m). It was in Machharmo in 1974 that one of the first Yeti sightings was reported in Khumbu. There are few good condition hotels and good mountain views from Machhermo. Afternoon after reaches and refreshed visit Himalayan rescue association and overnight at the hotel.

This day, we climb up to the ridge and can be seen excellent view both down the valley to Kangtega and northern part to the Cho-Oyu (8153m). Beyond the ridge the valley widens as the trail passes through Pangram at (4390m). We descend to the river bank before beginning the climb up to the terminal moraine of the Ngazumpa glacier. It is a steep climb on the moraine. Afterwards the trail levels out as it follows the valley past a second lake, known as Longponga at (4690m), where you'll have chance to find the Lama Foot prints on a stone. Enjoy the lake view and after an hour walk will reaches at Gokyo valley at (4750m), on the edge of third lake. There are some few teahouses with comfortable bed room and after lunch explore around the Lakeside and overnight at Hotel.

This may have full day rest at Gokyo or have chance to explore up to the fifth lake passing another forth lake and enjoy the view. This is great place and an opportunity to view full part of Mt. Everest and Cho-yu with a lake view in Himalayas from fifth Lake. Northern part you can see the Cho-yu base camp and biggest glacier of the world named Ngazumpa glacier and stroll back to hotel for overnight.

This morning hike up the to Gokyo-Ri for the breathtaking view of splash a sunrise top of the mountain including Mt. Everest view and many more Himalayan scenery. This will be unforgettable life time memories and enjoy around the top. We have a great memories and stroll back an hours to Gokyo for breakfast. We trek down to Thaknak for the overnight passing through the second lake and walk on the glacier and will reaches at Thaknak. From Gokyo the trail descends, looking at the views of the fine mountains and natural beauty, towards Thangna which is consider as the base of Cho -La Pass (5350m).

Thangna - Dzongla: This day, we walk in the high passes and one of the tuff days to cross the Cho-La at (5367m) height. The pass is not difficult but it is steep and involves a glacier traverse on the eastern side. After crossing the Cho-La pass and reaches at Dzongla for overnight stop at teahouse. It has a very basic dorm room with cozy dining. Enjoy the fantastic view around the high above.

We continue trek along the moraine of the glacier, with views of Kalapatthar and Pumori, before reaching at Lobuche (4910m) for lunch. You'll have good chances for the best view of Mt. Nuptse a front of you walking along the Gorakshep. The trail up to the Gorakshep is rocky and windy but it offers the good view of Pumori and there are beautiful views of the Everest Base camp and glacier with scenic Mountain View. We stop at the Gorakshep and enjoy the night at higher elevation but care with drinks and are sincere with altitude.

Early morning our journey continue steep climb to the top after 2 hour walk on our pace. After reaching the top, you will feel beaming as you achieve the moment that you been dreaming, since the beginning of the journey. Top of Kalapatthar is a small rocky peak on the southwest ridge of Mt. Pumori, the view from here is beyond imagination as the Everest looks amazing, the panoramic view from this spot is something to cherish, and you feel its worth the hard climb up to here and to feel at the top of the world, and can be seen to the south Khumbu glacier sweeps below you, and you can also see the Everest Base camp down below on the moraine of Khumbu glacier and lot of picturesque scenery. Re-track to Gorakshep and after the breakfast at Gorekshep we ready for our adventure to the targeted destination and we continues our trek towards the Everest Base Camp and to the Khumbu Ice-fall, the path from here can be misleading, follow the lead Sherpa, every year the trail changes due to the movements of the glacier, the walk is quite strenuous due to the high altitude and thin air, the walk passes through over rocky dunes and moraine and streams, till you reach the base camp. Everest Base Camp is lively with commotion during the high expedition season. It takes 2-3 hrs to get to base camp and after a grand time here retrace the journey back to Gorekshep for the overnight at lodge.

DAY 15: Gorakshep - Dingboche: After breakfast trek down to Dhugla then go straight up the hill from the bridge to reach an upper trail. Staying high above the valley floor, we pass the yak pasture at Dusa to a Chorten at the head of the Imja valley. Dingboche is the only place in Khumbu where barley is grown; enjoy the scenery and overnight stop at hotel.

Dingboche - Tyangboche: The walk this day will be easy heading downhill to a lower elevation from Dingboche the walk is pleasant all the way to Tyangboche. After crossing the bridge our route descends following the stream towards Pangboche village, and further down to Tyangboche is one of the most beautiful place in the Himalaya the first thing that comes to your eye is the big Monastery or Gumba, then the large field with campsites and teahouses, lodges beneath the towering majestic beautiful peak Ama Dablam, Everest, Mt. Lhotse and Lhotse Shar towards north east and more peaks all around you.

Trek goes down to the riverside at Fuki Tenga and steady climb through forest and continuous walk to Namche Bazaar. After Namche we walk down to the hill, cross some suspension bridge and reach Manjo for over night.

After breakfast you will depart Monjo and continue your descent along the Dudh Kosi, you can walk at your own pace and enjoying the lush green scenery around and passing through the incredible mountain scenery and local Sherpa village. Arrival in Lukla and you'll have time to stroll around the areas and guide will re-confirm your flight ticket and enjoy the last celebrate dinner with your crew member and overnight at Hotel. On arrival in Lukla you will have time to relax and celebrate the completion of your trek.

This morning you will be transferred to Lukla airport for your flight back to Kathmandu. Flights from Lukla to Kathmandu are mostly in morning due to impact of weather and wild blowing at Lukla airport. We take a Trans Himalayan flight back to Kathmandu by small aircraft and transfer to hotel. Free afternoon to be fresh up;

We allow a Leisure day in Kathmandu incase the flight from Lukla is canceled due to weather. If you are in Kathmandu we will take you on a guided tour to Bhaktapur Durbar Square, one of the oldest cities in the valley.

After breakfast you will have some free time until the time to leave the international airport for your final departure.
