Trekking Peak Climbing

Overview

Tharpu Chuli peak climbing (5663m) also known as Tent Peak which is situated in the heart of Annapurna Sanctuary and is among the few snow-clad summits at this height range in Nepal. Tharpu Chuli Peak is technically easy, but challenging peak. The summit offers superb panorama of Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Annapurna III, Annapurna V, Machhapuchhare, Hiunchuli, Singu Chuli and Gangapurna. The peak can be approached from several routes: North-West Ridge, South – East Ridge and South – West Face.

North-West Ridge: For North – West ridge route we follow the trail from Annapurna South Base Camp to the east along the moraine ridge and set base camp in a grassy area above the moraine ( 4,115m. ). We will gain to a ridge and fix the high camp at 4, 870m. Which can be snow covered. From the high camp we climb easy slopes on the glacier below the west face of Tharpu Chuli. We further cross the glacier and reach the foot of the fluted wall, which separates Tharpu Chuli and Singu Chuli. We further climb easy snow slopes and then steeper climb requires gaining the board ridge. From the ridge we climb steeply on a knife-edged ridge, which finally leads to the summit.

This trip is beginning from either from Dhampus Phedi or Nayapul in Pokhara. As we trek along the rich and lush Modi Khola with its plummeting cascades and high waterfalls and through the colorful Gurung villages and rhododendrons forest on the trail. The trek goes further towards the Annapurna sanctuary. We see different landscapes expansive across the forest on the trail. You will also observe paddies, pleasant ridges, grassy farm land, bamboo forest and rhododendrons. The high camp is at an altitude of 5000m and is very near to the foot of the steep snow face that led to the summit ridge of Tharpu Chuli. It takes about 4 hours to climb from advance camp to high camp. Descend to base camp will take more than 7 hours in very slippery conditions. While returning from the sanctuary, we follow the alternative route that goes west, following a high ridge. It eventually leads us towards Ghorepani and Kaligandaki valley. The Poon hill is above Ghorepani and we witness breathtaking view of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri range from there. Finally, we either catch aflight for Kathmandu or board a bus from Pokhara to Kathmandu.
